I’ve heard that applying to medical school is expensive. Is there any help available?

The costs of taking the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT®) and completing the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) shouldn’t be a barrier to your medical school dreams. There are fee waivers available for applicants whose families have limited resources.  For example, the AAMC’s Fee Assistance Program (FAP) helps students with extreme financial limitations whose inability to pay the full MCAT registration fee or the AMCAS fee would prevent them taking the examination or applying to medical school.

For More Information:

  • AAMC Fee Assistance Program (FAP)  - Free Resource!
The FAP helps students with extreme financial limitations whose inability to pay the full MCAT® registration fee or the AMCAS® fee would prevent them taking the examination or applying to medical school.

  • Medical Minority Applicant Registry (Med-MAR)  - Free Resource!
Students applying to medical school who are from groups that are underrepresented in medicine or who are economically disadvantaged are given the opportunity to register for Med-MAR at the time they take the MCAT.  The Med-MAR program helps to alert medical schools that these students have taken the MCAT and are potential applicants.  With the student’s prior approval, Med-MAR circulates basic biographical information and MCAT scores to all U.S. medical schools for free.

  • Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR™)
Published by the AAMC, this book is the most authoritative guide for applying to medical school. This accurate, thorough, and reliable resource is the only complete guide to U.S. and Canadian medical schools fully authorized by the schools themselves. In it you will find information on application procedures and deadlines, selection factors (including MCAT® scores and grade-point averages), medical school class profiles, education costs and financial aid packages, and much more. Chapter 9 focuses on financing a medical education.
