Considering a Career in Medicine?

• AAMC: Careers in Medicine® Web site – This career planning program is designed to help you choose a medical specialty and select and apply to a residency program.

Preparing for Medical School

• Summer Medical and Dental Education Program – The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a free six week summer academic enrichment program for freshman and sophomore college students who are interested in a career in medicine or dentistry. The application opens November 1, 2009 and the application deadline is March 1, 2010, so apply early!
  
• About the MCAT® Exam – Register for the MCAT, learn more about the exam, and browse through MCAT recommended reading lists on the AAMC's official MCAT Web site.
  
• MCAT® Practice Online – You can sign up to receive online practice tests to help prepare for the MCAT.
  
• New - Preparing for the Medical School Interview – A PowerPoint presentation highlighting important tips that can help you with the interview process. Presented by Paula K. Davis, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Diversity, School of the Health Sciences, University of Pittsburgh (PDF, 11 pages).

Applying to Medical School

• The American Medical College Application Service – A non-profit, centralized application processing service for applicants to the first-year entering classes at participating U.S. medical schools.
  
• Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR^TM) – Published by the AAMC, this is the most authoritative guide for applying to medical school.
  
• Minority Student Opportunities in United States Medical School (MSOUSMS) – A companion to MSAR^TM designed specifically for minority students that presents information from individual medical schools about recruitment, admission, academic support programs, financial aid, and more. 

Financing Medical School

• Financing Your Medical Education – Helpful tools and resources for educational loans and financial management from the AAMC.
  
• Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – This is a complete how-to guide on gathering required documents, completing necessary forms, and checking the status of your application.
  
• FinAid – Although not specifically geared toward medical school financial aid, this site guides students through the financial aid application process and also offers a free scholarship search tool.
  
• National Health Service Corps (NHSC) – The NHSC is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and offers a scholarship and loan repayment program in exchange for medical practice in communities of greatest need following medical training.
